Volte-face

MORE ON the Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS). After crying hoarse over injustice done to the region - seeking immediate implementation of GO 610, more projects for the region and formation of a separate State within six months - the separatist party is slowly but surely backtracking.

Their decision to join the Governments at the Centre and the State was an about turn because the TRS leader, K. Chandrasekhara Rao had insisted that they will never hanker after posts. Perhaps, to cover it up, he and other TRS leaders are claiming that the Centre had cleared the separate State just because it found a mention in the Common Minimum Programme and the presidential address.

At the same time, Congress has been stating that no such promise was made and they had only agreed for a Second States Reorganisation Commission. To his credit, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has been consistent on this stand .

The actions and presumptuous announcements of the TRS leaders got the goat of the Congress leaders of the Telangana region also. Dilemma, debates and discussions continue and the fun has just begun.
