The Karnataka Christian Communication Services has mobilised the local people with several discussions and workshops on various issues relating to the environment and community services

THE KARNATAKA Christian Communication Services (KCCS) has come a long way from its humble beginning at Tumkur in 1983 under the support of Karnataka Christian Education Society (KACES). This institution recently celebrated its 20th anniversary musically at the KACES Ground here.

The KCCS has, through its vibrant versatility in the fields of education, society, religion and culture, endeared itself to people from all walks of life and carved a niche for itself throughout Karnataka. Dr. Honey Cabral, the director of KCCS, said it is imperative that the vision of the founder and then Secretary of KACES, late C.D. Jathanna, be remembered.

Born at Tumkur's Sira Gate, this institution has been organising various educational and cultural programmes in the vicinity and hence provides a forum for local talent to blossom. Drama, music, puppetry and street plays became KCCS's vehicles for propagation of social and Christian values. Further, it has played a pivotal role in fostering confidence, self-esteem, patriotism, leadership and societal concern in people of all ages. This is done with the help of diverse programmes, seminars and workshops organised throughout the state.

In 1990, KCCS extended its services to the people here by opening a branch in the KACES campus. Every year, KCCS has successfully organised regular programmes such as Kala Sangama, inter-church music competition, festival of Christmas music and dance, Christotsava, Kala Mela, Kala Prathibe, Teacher's Day, Children's Day and Kala Jagathu, which have won appreciation of local populace. KCCS has to its credit, firsts such as the conference of Christian lyricists and artists. It also has the distinction of bringing out 16 audio cassettes, besides producing excellent socio-religious plays such as `Parivarthane', `Badava-Ballida', `Barabba', `Rathri Banda Athithi', `Mathe Gandhi Bandaga', `Swarga-Naraka', `Kshame', `Dhobi Madhuve' in Kannada and `Undula Onji Samsarana' in Tulu.

KCCS has also organised through provoking discussions, seminars and workshops on how to face examinations, the role of citizens in protecting the environment, proficiency in speaking skills, leadership traits and so on.

In 1999, through the efforts of the present secretary of KACES, J.S. Sadananda, an audio-visual recording studio `Kalasangama' was set up at the KACES campus. This has added colour to the services rendered by KCCS. Kalasangama has made it possible for many artists to bring out their hidden talent in the form of recorded audiocassettes, CDs and VCDs.

Albert Soans, the assistant director of Kalasangama is the chief technician and has won the appreciation of all artists with his skills. Dr. Cabral attributes KCCS's success to the bountiful grace and encouragement received from the community for the last two decades.
