Reggae, retro and more

RETRO MUSIC, a starless, somewhat cloudy sky and a barbeque are a great way to unwind in the middle of the week. David Pascall and his band Undercover will be performing every Wednesday night at Aqua, The Park's rooftop poolside restaurant, for the next few months.

This Wednesday, the band started out with "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glenn Campbell and moved into the waily "Susannah" by Art Company. The music coasted through the 1960s and 1990s with David's mellow voice and his talented band's playing making for a lovely evening of lazing.

The play list moved from the bluesy "No Woman, No Cry" to the rock-and-pop-based "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to the soulful "Can you feel the love tonight," carried entirely by Marc Wilcox's keyboard and David Fernandez on lead guitar. Michael Williams on bass guitar and Maynard Grant on the drums added zing to the evening.

Requests included Bryan Adams' evergreen "Summer of 69" and Elvis Presley's "It's Now or Never." One determined diner, who wanted The Beatles, began a good-humoured paper argument with David, who sang Ronan Keating's "In this Life" instead of the Beatles' "In my Life" that had been requested.

One couple broke into an impromptu jive, twisting and twirling by the pool. Most diners, however, preferred to lounge around enjoying the sizzling barbeque served by Chef Willie and team of bandanna-sporting chefs.

While Aqua was bubbling over, Pasha's audience for DJ Gurpreeth, who was supposed to be playing bhangra music, was practically non-existent. Pasha is usually rocking on weekends but during the rest of the week, stay by the poolside restaurant.
