Small screen, big dreams

To give a chance to talented people across the country, we are holding the screen test for the serial at 109 centres — Ekta Kapoor

WHEN PASSION is greeted by opportunity then neither a soaring mercury nor a lengthy queue bogs you down. Here is a chance to star in MTV's first ever soap. The hunt is on for six new faces, four girls and two boys, for Ekta Kapoor's upcoming serial Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi. Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi is the story of a small town girl Ananya, who finds her moorings in Mumbai. From thereon it is her growth as an individual and her friends that will take the 39-episode story ahead. It might not be like the saas-bahu sagas that compete for prime time; still it will be a soap in essence having its share of family stuff, songs and the like. As for the screen test, aspirants will be judged by their appearance, ability to act and personality, even though a smile might just do the trick.

Blame it on the acting bug or give credit to Ekta Kapoor for keeping viewers glued to the idiot box, a crowd of 6000 people definitely pointed to the magic of the small screen. "Balaji Telefilms has been a springboard for many newcomers but so far the cast has been mainly Mumbai-centric. Even if the actors were not from Mumbai, they had to come to the city for the screen test. By holding this screen test in 109 centres, we want to give a chance to talented people all over India," said Ekta Kapoor.

Interestingly, the age bracket of 18 to 28 years for the audition consists more of the MTV generation than the soap-loving populace, yet the music channel is willing to deviate from its successful formula of music. "It is about giving new things to the people. Be it fashion programmes like Style Check, humour programmes like Bakra or a reality show in the form of Roadies, we have been continuously evolving. This serial would just be part of our effort at new programming," said Vikram Raizada, vice president, MTV's marketing division. He did not even rule out the possibility of more such serials if this experiment succeeded.

Judging by the response in some of the centres, the contestants in Chennai are all set to put their best face forward. The event will take place on Sunday at the Rai University campus, Golden Tower, Royapettah High Road. For details call 98843 58714 or 98841 11001.
