Welcome move

FOLLOWING PROTESTS in the wake of the gruesome murder of a student, Sri Lakshmi, in Vijayawada, the police have launched a crack down on eve-teasers in the city.

The drive has seen cops picking up more than 40 youngsters in just three days from different parts of the city including Punjagutta, Chaderghat and Marredpally where educational institutions for girls are located. A vigil at bus stops and popular markets is also on with cops all set to pounce upon any one trying to tease girls. And any one caught in action ends up cooling his heels in police stations.

Given the increasing complaints from the fairer sex about harassment at educational institutions and public places, the move has drawn positive response from citizens, who hope the cops will persist with the drive and not dump it once the outcry over Sri Lakshmi's killing loses momentum.
