Battle of wits
ACCUSATIONS, PROBES and threats of legal battles seem to be the order of the day for our legislators, particularly former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Naidu had engaged himself in a battle of wits with his successor, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy over the spate of farmer suicides in the State, alleging that the suicides had gone up since the Congress assumed power. However, the argument lost muscle once Dr. Reddy ordered a judicial probe into the suicides, not just those that occurred during his tenure, but right from when Naidu held the reins.
The probe, he added, would ascertain whether it were the policies of the Congress government, which had given free power, waived arrears, set up helplines and provided seed subsidy or the polices of Naidu's government during its eight-year stint that forced farmers to take the extreme step.
The judicial wrangles might not stop there for Naidu, against whom a senior police officer has also threatened to go to court for his remarks about him in the Assembly.
