Leopards of Bollywood

NIKHIL AND Niret Alva's "Leopards of Bollywood" on National Geographic Channel (NGC) is perhaps one of the best documentary films on how wildlife is systematically being destroyed by human habitat near sanctuaries. It is an amazing film shot over 18 months based on the leopard attacks that led to 33 deaths in Mumbai's Sanjay Gandhi National Park and its surrounding areas near the film city. The documentary has caught on film leopard captures by the forest department, attacks on humans and a leopard's translocation from the park to a forest near Nasik. To add some Bollywood glitz, they have also captured the shooting of the film "Charas" and the crew being terrorised by leopards prowling outside the film city, and quotes by Amitabh Bachchan and Mahesh Bhatt. Nikhil Alva of Miditech, who produced the film with brother Niret, had earlier made another memorable documentary for NGC titled "Operation Hot Pursuit" about the illegal ivory trade across Asia, this past year. "Leopards Of Bollywood" confirms that the Alva brothers are as good as any wildlife documentary film makers in the world whose sympathies are always with the animals in the wild fighting a losing battle with Man.
