Vengeful drama

Swamy (Telugu)

Cast: Harikrishna, Meena, Amani, Rajeev Kanakala

Music: Keeravani

Director: Vankineni Ratna Pratap

VENUGOPALA SWAMY (Harikrishna) has twin sisters - Sita and Geetha, whom he brings up after losing his parents Kanakamahalakshmi (Meena) looks after them like a mother. Both the girls are admitted into the Medical College. A senior student of the college Anand (Rajeev Kanakala) casts his evil eye on the twins. A staff nurse who is already in love with Anand helps him in trapping the girls. Now that Geetha is pregnant, Anand proposes to marry Geetha and asks Sita to live with them as his mistress. His father, the local MLA (Jayaprakash), wants him to marry his friend's daughter . When the twins protest, Anand beats them up till they collapse. His father sends his car driver (Chalapati Rao) to burn them alive. On knowing what happened to his sisters Swamy and his wife start off to avenge these killings. Now that the Judge (Nuthan Prasad) comes to a decision that those dead are not Geetha and Sita, he asks the police to investigate and restore them to their brother, Swamy.

Swamy, meanwhile, corners Anand and kills him and then deposes before the judge that he saw his sisters disappearing into the forest after killing Anand. He claims that they got the protection of Sandal wood smuggler Veerappan. The court believes it and asks police to trace the girls and also capture Veerappan. Swamy completes the job of killing the rest. But he gets acquitted from the case . Then Swamy reveals that he committed all the murders and yet managed to go scot-free. Hence he asks the court to plug the loopholes in the law. But this story itself has plenty of loopholes including the lack of a specific direction. Censors ignored their own rule book in which it is suggests that prolonged and exaggerated ghastly scenes surrounding women should be avoided. The film does both. Harikrishna and Meena make a farce with their ridiculing of court. Script writer Posani appears to be quite obsessed with legal system.

Harikrishna's role is to display beastly ferocity. Meena has her own share of joining her husband in murdering the enemies. Rajeev Kanakala gets major part of drama and succeeds in showing mixed reactions of lust and hate. Uma playing twins looks quite sweet but she is unfortunate in getting such senseless role. Music by Keeravani has some interesting tunes.
