AMMAYI BAGUNDI puts the psyche of a young man to test in choosing girl to wed. The hero, Siva, (Sivaji) is a vagabond like his half a dozen friends. His father Ramanujam (Sivakrishna) is an honest officer in government registrar office, who tries his best to find a job for his reluctant son.
Siva's belief is that love just happens when the person finds his or her `match'. And this happens to him one day when he notices a girl passing by. . Meanwhile, a real estate don Manikyam (Rajan P. Dev) gets introduced to Ramanujam, when he visits his office for some registration work. He has a daughter named Satya (Meera Jasmine) for whom he is in search of suitable grooms. Impressed with Ramanujam, he sends an emissary to find whether Ramanujam is willing to give his son to his daughter Satya.
Siva, who is averse to marry anybody other than the girl he set his sights on, is practically dragged to their house to get introduced to the bride. It comes as a pleasant surprise when he realises Satya is the same girl he has been craving for. He accepts. The girl too gives her consent and the two get married.
As he is just about to settle down he happens to come across another who looks like Satya and falls in love with her. The rest of the drama depicts the dual mind and double personality of a person who is caught up with this funny problem. But what is unusual is the two girls looking alike. With help of his friends Siva locates the other in Kerala, and learns her name is Janani, who works for a product promotion company. He also learns she has left for Andhra again.
To his shock she suddenly lands in Hyderabad and in the flat opposite his. His obsession for that girl gains ground again, and his wife slowly gets to know of it. Yet Satya behaves unperturbed and even argues that `true love' means `sacrifice', if that makes her husband happier. Now that the two girls come close and become good friends, they understand the situation and find a way out to know Siva's mind too. The last part is worth watching on the screen.
There are too many alcohol intake sessions to resent. Even Siva's paternal uncle (M.S. Narayana) joins the young group of these `good-for- nothing' fellows. Then there is a separate track featuring Ali and Hema as husband and wife, who constantly quarrel with Hema beating up Ali. Meera Jasmine gives a laudable performance in both the roles.Siva Krishna and Rajan P.Dev are in routine roles. Sana and Surya get brief roles. The subject is purposeless. However, it is a neat film but for the boozing and chain-smoking sessions. Srilekha's music score is the technical highlight of the film .
