ALL YOU young musicians yearning for your 15 minutes of fame can now have a shot at it. The eighth Freedom Jam, a 12-hour, non-stop music exposition by over 40 bands, is set to take off in August.
The marathon session will be held behind Queen Victoria's Statue, Cubbon Park, and musicians and music lovers all welcome to converge on August 6, 5 p.m., reminiscent of the Music Strip, the informal Sunday jam sessions that came to an end all too soon.
A musicians' parade on the promenade along M.G. Road "to assert the independence of music" has also been planned and the venue for the Freedom Jam 2004 on August 14 will be announced then. The bands will perform on multiple stages that come with "world-class sound and lights". Each band will be allotted 30 minutes and a free stall to display its CDs and other memorabilia. The performance will be videographed by three cameras and recorded and edited online.
The DVDs and DAT recordings will be given to the participating bands. Bands with the best original music will awarded the studio time and one of their songs recorded will be added to the compilation album that will be distributed nationwide.
Registrations for performing at Freedom Jam 2004 closes on August 1 and can be done online by logging on to www.guruskoolmusic.com.
