Cop, the hero

Sivaram (Telugu)
Cast: Sai Kumar, Devayani, Devan, Ramireddy, Jeeva, Satyaprakash Nuthan Prasad, L.B.Sriram
Music: Vandemataram Srinivas
Director: Rajkumar

SAI KUMAR'S stentorian voice, mannerisms, expression and even hair - are tuned well for action roles - especially to play a police officer. Police roles demand realistic drama, lest the film becomes a farce. It is unfortunate that our Telugu film makers never look at films from this angle. This film also falls in the same slot, but for the climax . We are introduced to the hero Sivaram (Saikumar) one who arrives at Hyderabad as the CI at Punjagutta Police station. Sivaram launches tirade against hooligans. The battle lines are drawn when Sivaram kills rowdy sheeter turned politician G.K.'s son, who raped and killed a girl. Saikumar puts heart and soul in his performance. But the screenplay and even the basic story line should have been more realistic. Ramireddy is no different from the countless villainous roles he has done. . Devayani's character is etched as being slightly mentally disturbed. And their domestic scenes seem purposeless. Devan does not look like an IPS officer. Photography and background score are imaginative.
