Unwind and Recharge

Let not the weekend be another routine weekday. Go different.

THANK GOD It's Friday- sounds like the restaurant in one of our cosmopolitan cities, Mumbai or Bangalore. But, here the reference is not to the restaurants but to the beginning of the weekend. We all want our weekend to last more than the weekend itself. Some of us pack our weekend with what seems like a week's worth of action and still find time to unwind. Yet some of us find it's Sunday night even before we have had the time to blink our eyes. It's for us to see that the weekend lasts as long as we desire. Weekend is a lot more than the Saturday and Sunday, being treated as any other day. It's your hard earned time after toiling the entire week. It starts when you leave your desk on Friday evening, and lasts till you greet your files and colleagues on Monday morning.
Well, you can begin your weekend with a leisure filled activity like a dinner or movie and end with a wake up swim or breakfast out, on the manic Monday. Get set in the weekend mood. Leave office on Friday clear-headed. Do not fret about the unattended jobs at work, as this will increase the arrival of the not-looking-forward-to Monday. You could do one thing on Friday evening. Make a list of all the incomplete jobs and convince yourself that these will be given prime importance when your batteries have been recharged for the week, on Monday morning. This way you will feel less guilty through the weekend. Overdoing it on Friday means that by the Saturday you'll have to deal with dual emotions- tiredness as well as excitement as the weekend is yet on going. These two emotions are at disparity and very difficult to tackle. If you take it slow on Friday you can boogey all night long on Saturday. If you spend the entire Saturday lying under the duvet and groaning about your hangover, the weekend is bound to appear shorter. Ease into the party spirit. Do not fill your weekend with sleep but opt for activities to make your weekend last longer. Our body is tuned to a sleep pattern during the week. Disrupting and spending long hours in bed during the weekend will leave us out of sync. If you over sleep, you have less energy and might end up having a hangover. Plan out activities for this time of the week-time with family, shopping, visits, cleaning, catching up with friends etc. Don't compel yourselves to do anything that seems like a chore as this hinders leisure. Our ability to unwind during the weekend is what peps us for the entire week and makes the weekend last longer. So be choosy about the work as well as the invitation you accept and give out. In short don't do anything even as close to "hard work".
It is believed that all of us belong to two types of personalities-type A or type B, both of which are contrasting personalities. The type A personalities are competitive, martinets, and constantly probing types. Where as the type B are the happy-go-lucky kinds. Therefore for us to enjoy the weekend we have to identify our personality type and blend well into it. The former types are over organised even during weekends and thus cannot relax easily. They will not be able to take the day as it comes, as they have to plan well ahead. But they have to master the art of relaxing during the weekends. The type B people laze around too much over the weekends. One should feel rejuvenated after the weekend. Even if you do productive work over the weekend, it has to be filled with fun, so that it is different from a regular weekday. So come Friday and there is a spring in one's walk and so many of us heave a sigh of relief and say, "Thank God It's Friday!"
