Go NUTTY

Popping with vitamins, dry fruits also have medicinal properties


DO NOT underestimate the power in the little nuts and raisins. Dry fruits are a storehouse of nutrition and energy. In other words a health capsule. Besides they alleviate illness by correct use. Read on and find out the medicinal goodness these little nuts harbour.

Raisins are dried grapes and are highly efficacious in the treatment of constipation. Soak a few in a glass of drinking water for 24-48 hours. Pit and eat them in the morning. The water can also be drunk. This gives excellent results in case of chronic constipation.

Rich in iron

As a rich source of iron, raisins enrich blood. Thus they are useful in curing anaemia. For those who wish to gain weight, consumption of raisins is helpful. They may be taken several times a day by the ounceful.

Owing to its laxative property, the fig is an excellent remedy for haemorrhoids. Soak two or three dried figs in cold water overnight and have them the next morning. They should be taken similarly in the evening. Regular consumption of figs in this manner for three or four weeks will cure the malady. Figs are considered beneficial in the treatment of asthma. And in case of stubborn corns, the milky juice of green figs helps soften them.

Nourishing dates

Dates are one of the most nourishing dry fruits. Crush dates in the same water in which they have been soaked overnight after removing the seeds and take at least twice a week. This will strengthen the heart. Dates are an excellent remedy for getting rid of a hangover. In such cases, drinking water in which fresh dates have been soaked brings quick relief. The nicotinic content in dates is excellent for intestinal disturbances. Dates are a good laxative too.

In extreme, dry, cold weather, people with sinusitis suffer from pain in the nose. A quick and easy remedy to this problem is to apply a paste of walnut, made by grinding walnut in water, over the nose. Walnut tops in calorie contents among all the dry fruits and provides great strength.

Cashew nut is one of the most popular dry fruits while intake of almond sharpens memory power: very useful for the elderly who often find it difficult to remember things. A regular head massage with almond oil before retiring for the day is also helpful. Do so for a fortnight and feel the sharpening of your memory power. Almond powder is an effective tooth powder also. Remove the rinds of a couple of almonds, add a little of salt, camphor and ground cardamom. Rub it on your teeth every morning.

Fights anaemia

Consumption of almond helps in countering anaemia. Almond mixed with a couple of dry dates morning and night, besides the regular intake of green vegetables, will help boost iron content in the blood. In case of weak eyesight, grind seven almonds and seven grains of black pepper together and mix in water already sweetened with sugar. Have this mixture in the morning and evening. There will be a definite improvement.
