Medals from KL

The Indian squad fared well in the badminton championship in Kuala Lumpur

THE INDIAN squad for the Asia Cup Badminton Championship for the physically challenged came home with a clutch of medals from Kuala Lumpur. The team finished fourth in overall standings in the championship held between July 14 and 18.

The medal winners for the Indian team were: Parul D. Parmar, Puspalatha, Anand Boregwoda, Gopinath, Srinivasa Rao, and Manoj Khaire (Gold); Anand Boregowda, Harish Bisht, and Satyaprakash Tiwari (Silver); Pushpalatha, B. Anand, Raghuram, Srinivas Rao, and Satyaprakash (Bronze). The other notable performers were Ramesh Tikaram, S.P. Das, Anjan Reddy, and Jayadeeban, who went down in the quarter-finals. Ten nations participated in the championship.

The Indian squad was fielded by the Bangalore-based Commonwealth Disabled Sports Association of India.
