Just a pinch of FAT

Delay ageing by reducing the intake of fat in your diet.

Fat rich foods are known to speed up ageing. Fats that oxidise easily cause free radical damage to the body, making us age faster than we want to.

FOREVER YOUTHFUL is the bottom line for genX. Nobody wants to look old though they can't stop old age. Aging occurs when the body's cells become incapable of destroying the free radicals created in the body. Fats that oxidise easily subject our body to the risk of free radical damage, making us age faster than we want to. Obesity and medical problems are not the only flaws of excess fat utilisation.

Fat speeds aging

Fats are now known to speed up aging. But the price at which one ages, depend upon the type of fat one is likely to consume. Diet habits from childhood days are, to an extent responsible for deciding our life span. The wrong food intake, junk food, unwanted addictions, and pollution all lead to formation of free radicals. Oil intake must be reduced. But this does not mean that to augment your life span all that you ought to do is trail a fat-free diet, which is not a healthy one.

The body requires a minor quantity of fat or oil to carry out certain functions such as the production of vital hormones and enzymes and absorbing vitamins.

No hydrogenated oils

Avoid hydrogenated oils like margarine and butter. They encourage heart attacks and free radical formation. The best bet is monounsaturated oils like olive, walnut and fish oil etc. These don't oxidise easily and prevent the oxidation of LDL Cholesterol.

Goodness of Olive oil

Research supports the fact that 2 tsp of olive oil daily reduces the risk of breast cancer. Go slow on animal fat consumption as high intake of red meat depletes calcium from the body, which in turn leads to depletion of bone density ultimately making you fall prey to osteoporosis.

Go veggie

Quit meats and go veggie. Vegetarians have a cut above the rest when it comes to longevity; they are also less susceptible to aging process and disease because they possess a stronger immune system. They also have more balanced BP, cholesterol level and have lower rates of cancer and heart attacks. Vegetarian women are known to have lesser possibility of contracting ovarian and breast cancer. The saturated animal fat results in increased oestrogen level in the non-vegetarian counterparts. If you are in your twenties then you sound have atleast five helpings of plant food daily. The ideal diet would be having only fish, fruits and vegetables. There is some vegetarian food like pav bhaji, dal, dahi wada, pulao etc that do not contain antioxidants. Thus a fit vegetarian diet should include four to five helping of cooked and partly cooked vegetables.

Go fishy

Indulge in a lot of fish, as fish contains the heart friendly Omega-3 fatty acids. Fish oil helps raise the HDL or good cholesterol, in a way actually adding years to your life. But keep in mind to preserve the anti-aging properties of the fish- never deep fry the fish. For the vegetarians, walnut oil, wheat germ oil and almond oil offer benefits similar to Omega-3 fatty acids. Steer clear of over cooking. Over cooking the vegetables makes them lose their nutrients as well as antioxidants. Both of these are required to restrain free radical activity within the body.

Be a freshetarian

Consume as much fresh fruits and raw vegetables. These are rich in antioxidants and they help diffuse the free radical activities of fat and prevent cell damages. The ideal intake is an intake of five. Either three vegetables and two fruits or vice versa. Drink more tea. Tea has come clear and proven to be a longevity agent. Black tea and herbal tea is equally effective in defusing free radical activity. Avoid drinking tea with meals though.

Vitamin E

This can reduce the chances of heart attack as Vitamin E prevents oxidation of LDL and stops its entry into the arterial wall. This is also a beauty aid. Reduce sugar intake. Sugar raises insulin levels, damages the arteries and destroys chromium, which is an anti-aging factor. It could cause cancer, obesity and skin diseases. Eat more garlic. Raw garlic can stop the oxidation of fats present in meat, preventing it from getting potentially hazardous to the body cells. You could delay ageing related nightmares to a great extent by saying good-bye to fats, which are easily oxidized. And will start to look and feel young.
