Designs on show

A range of exclusive saris and salwar suits is up for grabs

YOU HAVE one more reason to celebrate the season (and never mind the rain). Chandra's Collection, a local boutique, is showcasing its designer saris and salwar suits in tussar, crepe silk, georgette, chiffon, organza with block prints, cutwork, kalamkari, as well as hand-embroidered and hand-painted textiles with exclusive dyeing and unique colour combinations.

According to Chandra Rajendran, upcoming designer, the sari is reasserting itself as a garment that is as exotic as it is contemporary.

A wide spectrum of vibrant hues ranging from burgundy to bottle green, turquoise blue to fuchsia pink as well as the classic beige — the natural colour of tussar — is on show.

This season's colours are fuchsia pink and various shades of orange.

Each sari from the stable of Chandra's Collection provides unique fall patterns, texture, look and fell, and, above all, a synergy of all these elements. Typically, the saris have attached Mangalgiri border, embroidered border and cutwork border in multi-colour patterns.

Also exclusive to the collection are embroidered saris featuring fine workmanship like full embroidery, Kasuti and Kutchi embroidery native to Dharwad and Gujarat, and cutwork ethnic to Kerala.

The embroidery is in colourful threads featuring stem stitch, satin stitch, button hole stitch, shadow work, and machine embroidery.

The sale is on from 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on August 6 and 7 at the Indian Heritage Academy, CA6, 6th Block, Koramangala, Bangalore 560 095, Phone: 25534089.
