Theatre aficionados can look forward to an evening of red wine, French food and theatre

KONARAK REDDY is presenting Jean Genet's play, The Maids, on August 13 and 14 at The Grand Ashok, 7.30 p.m.
The play will feature Nalini, Kirtana Kumar, and Rhea Saran.
The Maids, a mid-20th Century French play, is considered a classic in world theatre and actresses have always wanted to enact Solange, Claire, and the mistress.
This was so "particularly after Jean Paul Sartre, the French writer, speculated in his ode to Jean Genet, the provocative essay Saint Genet, that the roles of Solange and Claire were meant to be performed by cross-dressing men".
Konarak needs no introduction. He is a brilliant guitarist and music composer and has earlier directed the critically acclaimed play, In the Hour of God, based on Aurobindo's Savitri.
Nalini and Kirtana Kumar play the maids, and Rhea Saran, the mistress.
The costumes have been designed by Sonali and Himanshu of Grasshopper. Production design is by Anandi Chowriappa.
The play will open at The Grand Ashok "as a red wine and dinner theatre event" and, for the first time, a production has been developed to integrate the dinner menu.
The Grand Ashok has partnered Little Jasmine Films in the effort.
