Pepping up confidence among girls

Pepper, not the solution

Prevention is better than cure. Instead of indulging in chest-beating over the loss after an incident, the authorities concerned should think of ways and means to avoid circumstances that could lead to such disastrous situation. Decision to give pepper spray to girls could serve as a deterrent but it has its disadvantages too. The need of the hour, I earnestly feel, is to bring about a positive change in the social set-up we have at present. The gender bias which begins at childhood should be done away with. For, after all, a mere pepper spray cannot always save all the Sri Lakshmis from a hardcore criminal.
