FEELING HUNGRY! Check out the sizzling treats from Sri Lankan chefs at Colombo's Holiday Inn. Now on show at Seven, Crowne Plaza Surya's interactive Indian cuisine restaurant.
The restaurant wears a contemporary look and offers a new eating experience. As you enter, a waiter attired in a traditional Sri Lankan dhoti and kurta comes forward and offers drinks and starters.
Chef Thilakratne, working for 23 years in Colombo informs, "The Sri Lankan multi-cultural cuisine is best known for its herbs and spices and coconut milk. We use cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, coriander, cumin, fennel, fenugreek and black mustard seeds in various curries, vegetable and rice dishes."
The menu for the festival, concluding this coming Sunday, includes some mouth-watering dishes like malu ambulthiyal (fish marinated with gorraka chilli powder, chopped garlic and chopped onion cooked in a clay pot), isso theldalox (prawns marinated with chilli powder, curry powder, turmeric powder, lime juice and tempered with onion, tomato and green chillies), elumas hodi (mutton curry), malu hodi (fish curry), to name a few.
For the vegetarian food lovers, wattakala (cubes of pumpkin cooked in coconut milk), bandaklaa (lady finger), parippu and nivithi (dal with spinach cooked in coconut milk), ala theldala (cubes of potato sautéed with onion, garlic curry leaves and green chillies) are in the buffet. The desserts include wattalappam (jaggery cubes with coconut milk and egg), pab cake panipal (pan cake with grated coconut and honey) and curd and trickle.
The delicious assortment is priced at Rs.600 and is open for dinner only.
