IT'S TIME for mums and daughters to bond again. Meera Mom and I is back. This time the contest has been extended to include mothers and daughters from across the State, not just Chennai city. Into its fourth year, the contest aims to strengthen the unique bond between mothers and daughters.

Event organisers, VIBA received more than 100 applications for the Meera Super Mom and Super Girl 2004 contest, out of which ten finalists have been selected. The ten mothers and daughters will swoop on to stage at the Music Academy on August 21, 7 p.m.

At the finals, the mother-daughter teams will be competing for the Scooty Pep Most Talented crown and, of course, the Super Mom-Super Girl title. The Good Knight Like Mom Like Daughter title is open to public vote on the website www.vibaviba.com. Pictures of the mothers and daughters are up on the site and people can vote for the pair they think is most similar.

A fun pageant

"This is a fun pageant," says Shoba Ravishankar of VIBA. "There are positive vibes between the teams and most of them are just participating for the fun of it, for the experience, to just enjoy the feeling of being on stage."

Mom Kumudha, who is an aerobics instructor and an alternative healer, says she joined the competition to show people how easy it is to treat a daughter as a friend. "As a healer, I see a lot of parent-child conflicts. I want people to realise that parents and children can be friends if they just accept each other as they are." Daughter Keerthi says she there to show "that I have the best mom in the world."

Padmini and Sujatha are down from Coimbatore for the show. "I take part in a lot of rangoli, cookery, painting and embroidery competitions," says Mom Padmini. "So she insisted we enter this contest, that's why we're here," cuts in daughter Sujatha. "I am missing some classes at school, but she really wanted to be here. I hope we win."
