The Sai Sirisha Foundation has selected six teachers from the district for presentation of the `Guru Brahma' awards this year. The awards will be presented to the winners at a function to be held at the VUDA Children Theatre on Monday.

"We started the foundation two-and-a-half years ago with the objective of promoting the cause of education," says its chairman and managing trustee, Lanka Mohana Rao. The foundation has been distributing furniture, textbooks and notebooks besides granting scholarships and conducting medical camps for school children. Even before the formation of the foundation, Mohana Rao, has been organising various service activities both in the field of education and culture. He bagged the best social worker award of the State Government in 2001.

A child labour school is being run by the foundation at Dandu Bazaar under the National Child Labour Project (NCLP).

The organisation has adopted a municipal high school and an elementary school and is striving to transform them into model schools. The foundation had honoured noted playback singer, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, with the `Lifetime achievement award' in the past.

The foundation is planning to give `Pratibha puraskars' to students who show academic brilliance on the Children's Day in November. Competitions in painting would also be organised on the occasion. The teachers who are selected for the Gurubrahma awards this year are: Bonda Appa Rao, M. Babu Rao, Lalam Sridevi, S. Murali Babu, B. Tata Babu, and B. Annamma.
