Pastel hues

Tabebuia flowers profusely in summer and can be seen in several places in the city

THE TABEBUIA belongs to the family Bigoniaceae. A native of Mexico, this large, erect, semi-deciduous tree can be seen in quite a few places in Chennai.

Glorious sight

T. rosea when in bloom during the months of March, April and May is a picture of flamboyance.

The large, delicate trumpet-shaped flowers that appear in clusters in pastel shades of pink, white and yellow make a glorious spectacle, especially when seen from a distance. The tree draws attention because of its profuse flowering and the falling blooms make a dense carpet below. The leaves of the tree do not form a compact crown and hence, the flowers stand out against the backdrop of the sky at dawn.

T. rosea is used to treat boils and wounds as it has anti-fungal properties.
