Suresh opts for variety

He has scored the music for innumerable songs in nine Indian languages, worked with all top music directors like Naushad, K.V. Mahadevan and A.R. Rehaman between 1974 and 1990. He played on the keyboard for 1,200 films. In fact, Rehaman was a junior keyboard player when he had already established himself in the industry.
That was the music director, Madhavapeddhi Suresh, who has composed the music for 45 films, 25 private albums and popular television serials in ETV and Gemini, in a career spanning three decades.
Suresh was in Visakhapatnam to participate in a function organised by Sri Kopparapu Kavula Kalapeetham to honour the lyricist, Veturi Sundararama Murthy, on the occasion of its second anniversary on Thursday.
"I try to do something new for each song to avoid monotony, though it may be of the same raga," Suresh said in a tete-a-tete with Metro Plus. This seems to be his strongpoint.
"Variety is the spice of life and it is only by choosing a wide range of subjects, can a music director prove himself," he avers.
Suresh has composed the music for four songs of a new film of Veena Creations, which is yet to be named. The film, produced by Y2K, is based in Hyderabad and Chicago and being directed by D.V.R. Kalinga, an associate of the late Kranthi Kumar. "It is a musical love story which revolves around four boys and a girl," he hints.
Which song had given him the maximum satisfaction?
"A real technician can never have satisfaction; he keeps striving for the best....'Sri Krishnaarjuna Yuddham' gave me the maximum satisfaction. Though it brought me the Nandi award, the success of the film was average."
'Bhairava Dweepam' and 'Maato pettukoku' are the other two films which earned him name and fame. He has already composed the music for two songs for the Balakrishna-starrer, 'Nartanasala', the shooting of which has just started.
Suresh is one among the very few music directors who does not allow distortion of lyrical beauty while enhancing and focusing on the essence of bhava.
His ambition?
"To make an everlasting impression in the hearts of the people, like the legendary singer, Ghantasala, and be remembered as the best music director. I am striving to achieve that position."
