Eye donation

SO MANY people die each day and the bodies are simply buried or burnt. Instead of succumbing to myths, each of us should donate our eyes after death. Those who give vision to the blind can truly attain spiritual fulfilment.

G. Baskaran,
No.19 East West
Avenue, Palanisamy
Nagar, Reserve Line,
Madurai-14.

AN INDIVIDUAL may be interested in donating his or her eye after death. But the wish has to be fulfilled by the members of the family. Since grief overtakes at the time of bereavement, eye donation is failing as a movement. All family members should sit together and discuss the necessity and importance of eye donations and make their decision to donate eyes known to all. In fact the pledge should be repeated at every family get-together so that it is not forgotten at that point of time.

T.Palanichamy,
D-1/3, BSNL Staff Qtrs.,
Thiruppalai, Madurai-14.

THERE ARE many ways to serve the needy during our lifetime. But after death there is only one way, by donating our eyes. After death, we can neither take our wealth or health with us. Only our good and bad deeds will follow us. If we donate our eyes, good deed will follow us and a blind person will get a fresh lease of life. It is necessary for us to donate our eyes. A candle does not lose its light in the process of lighting another candle.

EYE DONATION is a magnanimous deed, which one can render without any loss. Giving sight to those in need makes one's life meaningful. Let each of us show our humanity by donating our eyes after our death.

IN INDIA, many poor people are suffering from blindness and defective vision due to various reasons. Such people can be helped with donated eyes. For eye donation, age and gender, colour or class is not important. Only a generous mind and a helping attitude will suffice.

M. Muthuramalingam,
16-1-12, Karumariamman
Kovil Street, Koodal
Nagar, Madurai-18.

EYE DONATION is one of the noble deeds one can do. Madurai ranks first in eye donors when compared to other districts of TN. One striking feature is that, people belonging to a particular community keep themselves as fore runners in eye donation. However, the rate of eye donations is far less than the need. Perhaps, it needs more celebrities for the campaign. Everyone can't be a Helen Keller, but one can light up two lives.

IF EYE donation is to be popularised, the entire donor family will have to be recognised by government for suitable concessions as incentives. For a beginning, schools and colleges should be called upon to reserve some seats for wards from eye-donor families.

"ANNADAN" — DISTRIBUTION of food to be public is considered to be the best of all `daans' in Hindu Philosophy. Similarly, eye donation is also best because it gives vision to a blind, as he or she has no idea of how the world looks. Number of eye donors must increase. Special campaign must be conducted for propagation of eye donation. Eye donation is a service to the blind.

EYE DONATION is a major social service. These days, the movement is gaining popularity. The main aim of donating eyes is to give life and light to people who cannot see. Non-profit organisations render free service but still people in villages are ignorant about eye donation. Everybody should understand that any healthy person of any age can donate eyes after death and lend to this noble cause.

A. Suganya,
No.32, Chitrakara Street,
Near East Gate,

LIFE IS short. This short life can be made meaningful with eye donation By donating eyes we give light and create a new world for people in darkness. Great people live after their death by their contributions to literature and other subjects. By donating eyes, ordinary people can also lead a life after death.

B. Chandralekha,

Tirunagar, Madurai-6.

ALL HUMAN beings should come forward to donate their eyes with 'heart and soul'. We should not compel anybody. Eye donation is a noble service and like we try to help others on many occasions by donating food, blood, money, eye donation should also become a tradition.

G.Manivasagam,

EYE IS the most vital and essential organ of man. But many of us are blind. Those who are not are burning their eyes in futility after death. Instead we should donate to light up a needy person's life. The best donation is eye donation and can be done easily.
S.S.Venkateshwaran,
12A/3, Jumburopuram III St,
Goripalayam, Madurai-2.

BY DONATING eyes, we rescue people from darkness. It is the help, which makes the recipient supremely happy because now all of a sudden he or she can see and admire nature and so many other things. Financial donation is always a bit difficult. But eye donation after death costs nothing. The pledge of a donor can be realised only by the relatives of the deceased.

Sofia Adaikala Mary,
Department of Sociology,
Madura College, Madurai.

DONATING EYES after death is a highly appreciable gesture. Creating awareness about eye donation is very significant because there is still a lot of ignorance among the poor and the illiterate. Eye banks and service clubs should engage young and spirited people to create awareness and disseminate information about blindness among villagers. Through media, advertisement, banners we can strengthen the awareness. Eye donation can also be encouraged by announcing incentives to the family whose member donates eyes. By donating our eyes after death, we continue to live as we can see and enjoy the world through the recipient's eyes. Donate eyes and give light to the dark.

K.N. Ambiga,

EYE DONATION is the only way to help the blind population. Nowadays there is both the need and availability of corneas in eye banks. But more public awareness is needed to help people shed their myths and fears. The main reason for hesitation is emotional and religious beliefs. In every hospital, counsellors should convince the people and counsel them to donate their eyes. The feeling and spirit to donate has to come from within. Other factors like volunteers, motivators and counsellors can only guide the people on how to donate eyes. Donors will always earn heavenly blessings. When our life end's their (the blind) life starts with our donated eyes.
V. Vigneswaran,
13 A, Lakshmipuram
8th Street, Madurai-9.

I FEEL eye donation can be of great help to a blind. But awareness is lacking among the new generation. Schools, colleges and universities should talk about eye donation, its benefits and uses to the students regularly. Even rural people lack knowledge about eye donation. The Government should step in strengthening efforts. Let our pair of eyes enlighten others.

AFTER DEATH of a person, the body is either burnt or buried. Of late, people are slowly changing their mind and donating organs or even entire body to medical colleges. The greatest donation is that of eye because it helps restoring the vision of unfortunate human beings living without sight. Removing eyes from dead bodies does not disfigure faces or cost anything. On the other hand it can provide sight to a visually handicapped person.

K.R.Rajendran,
42/1, Mahal II St.,
Madurai-1.

WHEN WE see a visually impaired person, we pity him and offer help. But why people hesitate to donate eyes after death? Since body is either cremated or buried, heads of religious bodies should make an appeal to people to voluntarily donate their eyes. I have decided to make eye donation my family tradition. I am happy to note that Madurai District tops the list in eye donation. Let your eyes after your death bring sight to the visually impaired.

K. Venkataraman,

THERE IS an element of divinity in eye donation. Even renunciation of mundane affairs and material wealth cannot equal it. The act is incomparable and finds no parallel. It is virtue personified. Lord Krishna attained resplendent glory by granting a moment's eyesight to the blind Gaurav King Dhritharashtra for witnessing his Vishwarupa Darshan. The mortal king felt that his lifetime mission had been fulfilled by the vision. He wished that he were dead then. Let us donate our eyes for the cause of humanity.

S.V. Vaikundam,

Nagar, Madurai-7.
