ABHINAYA, Bhanupriya's new love
|
Bhanupriya speaks about her daughter, Abhinaya, and how she balances her professional and family life
|
Bhanupriya with her daughter, Abhinaya
ACTOR BHANUPRIYA these days is into Pogo, TV channel for children. Her involvement in music, one of her favourite hobbies, is also limited to listening to nursery rhymes. In between donning the greasepaint and mugging up lines to play the screen mother, this mother of one-year-and-nine-months old Abhinaya, also finds time to draw kangaroos and show the moon to her daughter.
Her daughter
With Abhinaya on her lap, Bhanupriya who was in Kerala to shoot for the Malayalam film `Hridayathil Sookshikaan', says: "It has been ages since I have listened to classical music and light songs. These days, we play only nursery rhymes at home."
Bhanupriya, who herself is living her mother's dream of being a dancer, denies having any specific plan for her daughter. "I would definitely love to see her practise arts. But I don't want to push her into anything. If it (dance) comes naturally to her, then it is fine. However, her father would love to see her as a dancer."
Family
Bhanupriya's husband, Adarsh Kaushal, who is an award-winning photographer based in the United States (U.S.), also has an artistic background. While he plays the sitar, his mother, Sumathi Kaushal, runs a dance school in Los Angeles.
Bhanupriya, who had an arranged marriage, says that she and her husband took a liking to each other because of their mutual love for the arts. "Adarsh appreciated the fact that though an actress, I am a dancer first and foremost."
Her dance
But the dancer-turned-actress admits that she has "messed up as a dancer". "I may be a good dancer, but I am at a loss when it comes to the theory."
Her regrets are not limited to her incomplete grasp over dance theory. She is candid that she has got the fundamentals wrong in her personal life. "Soon after marriage, I was pushing myself to adjust to a normal married life. There have been times when I have gone into a low. But Adarsh has been supportive. After the birth of Abhinaya, things have smoothened out."
Her work
The `wife' in Bhanupriya misses going out with her husband and leading a normal married life. But for a call from the South Indian film industry, she would still have been playing the role of the traditional housewife in the U.S. "I felt overwhelmed by the fact that people still wanted me in the films. I feel complete as a professional now. I have learnt to balance both my personal and professional lives."
And part of this balancing act is the condition laid out to producers and directors that she would work only from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. `I want to spend quality time with my daughter. She is the most important person in my life right now,' says the doe-eyed dusky beauty.
So, while Abhinaya takes up the bulk of her quality time, abhinaya (acting) too is not far behind. Besides `Hridayathil Sookshikaan', which is produced by Bose Verghese, scripted by Kalavoor Ravikumar, and directed by debutant Rajesh R. Pillai, she is also working on a Telugu serial for AVM Studios and a Telugu film for Krishna Reddy.
As of now, for Bhanupriya, it is `Abhinaya' all the way.
