Though caught in the rat race to satiate their competitive urge, Anil and Rama manage to steal moments of fun and excitement on weekends, says Mubin Sultan

"MOM, THAT is papa, you and me!" cried Raghav, with his eyes fixed on the huge mural depicting a family of colourful butterflies, at the Aroma restaurant of Quality Inn DV Manor. Anil Ambati and his wife Rama, walked into the restaurant with their most precious possession- the naughty little Raghav in toe.
Anil is the Head of Operations for TATA Teleservices and wife Rama is a software professional in Hyderabad.
After spending his childhood in Orissa, he obtained an MBA degree from Symbiosis through distance learning. But since he was in no mood to lead a life devoid of competition, he jumped into the field of marketing and sales in Andhra Pradesh.
Anil initially worked with Titan Watch Company and went on to make it big with Tata.
A philatelist
A man from East with a zeal and enthusiasm borrowed from the South, Anil fondly remembers the afternoons dedicated to a refreshing round of siesta which are reduced to a mere dream now. He was a passionate philatelist and collected over 12,000 stamps during his summer vacations. "I presented them all to a young starter," he says with a sense of satisfaction while sipping sweet corn soup. Anil is mostly snowed under with the huge responsibility of almost the entire State's operation for telecommunications. Rama spends weekends shuttling between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. "His mind is so occupied that he gets restless to see the Monday dawn to get back to work," she teases while munching Hari bhari kebab and Manchurian baby corn for starters.
The hectic schedule does not seem to bother Rama much as she enjoys her work to the fullest. Travelling so much and so often is no duck soup but Rama makes it less painful by looking forward to the weekends to spend time with her husband.
Sundays are strictly reserved for having fun with the family members at home. "Vijayawada is a nice place but I have known no other place like Hyderabad," says she making no bones about her obsession with the unique charm of the City of Pearls. `Eat Street' along the stretch of the Necklace road is her favourite food jaunt while occasionally, going to a movie with colleagues comprises other ways of having fun.
A globetrotter
Mr. Peter England, as his father calls him; Raghav loves using glitzy cutlery and is completely at ease with a fork while eating papad. Any reprimand upsets him to the extent rolling on the floor to overcome the annoyance. The family loves travelling.
While Rama has visited all the South Indian temples, Anil has had the privilege of touring a major part of the world. "As a target achiever, I have been sent to many countries for pleasure trips with colleagues," he observes partaking Rotis with Parda paneer and Methi chaman.
The tour to Switzerland was the best trip for him while American lifestyle showcased by the huge shopping malls and the glitter on the streets continues to amuse him.
