Heritage festival from Monday
AROUND 200 artisans from all over the country are set to land in Bangalore early next week for the Indian Heritage Festival 2004 that will feature special galleries on handlooms and handicrafts.
The festival hopes to connect the past and the present, the urban and the rural, using contemporary design for traditional art. Pottery, stone, wood, metal, jewellery, embroideries, paintings, leather, paper, cane, bamboo and natural fibre are some of the mediums and craft products being brought in at the exhibition.
Live demonstrations by select artists are also on the cards as part of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture's Incredible India campaign.
The Interior Design Gallery will showcase how craft and design can come together to create alternatives for urban lifestyles. Entire living rooms, kitchens, and dining areas will be set up using a range of products from the galleries, including furniture, furnishings, flooring, tableware, lamps, and paintings.
The exhibition will showcase a host of non-chemical bath and cosmetic products, organics foods, handmade paper etc.
Organised by ITDC in collaboration with the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Development Commissioner (Handlooms), and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the festival will be on at Palace Grounds from September 20 to October 3 (entrance opposite Cauvery Theatre), Sankey Road.
