WHEN LIFE agreed to die and death agreed to live - a catchline in the promos of Shukriya gives one a peek into what the film is all about. If you think this is one of those about life and death like Anand, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Prem Geet, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokon Se and many others it is different - according to its director Anupam Sinha and male lead Aftab Shivdasani. A rather clichéd statement, but they make it sound hatke. Anupam Sinha makes a hatke debut in films (after scores of music videos) - with not a run-of-the-mill story, normally a safe bet, but one which talks of reality - life and death though not in a horror way. "It's a positive one exploring human emotions, life and journey - one which ends with death," says Anupam at a promo (organised by Mindkraft and Idea) while in the city to promote it. Shriya enters Hindi filmdom for the second time. Anupam Kher plays a pivotal role in the film schedule to release in October.

New concept

Aftab finds it "difficult to explain. It's a new concept. It's about appreciating life and accepting death. Here death does not occur due to illness or crime but due to a different reason (suspense, suspense..). It's a situation which one does not come across in life." For Shriya, who plays a bubbly cheerful girl "Shukriya does not talk about death in a painful way. It talks about the beauty of life, how to cherish every moment of it."

On the face of it the movie seems to be the usual love story - Sanam (Shriya), the daughter of tycoon Jindal (Anupam Kher) is in love with Ricky (Aftab). Then starts the twist - Sanam's dreams are shattered. Will love triumph over death?

Anupam Kher was the first choice for the father's role and Anupam while scouting for a new face found Shriya, one of the shining stars of Telugu tinseldom. "It's a delight to work with Anupam Kher. He is so experienced and teaches you a lot," says Anupam Sinha. Aftab and Shriya were certainly lured by the script to sign the film.Shot in one schedule in London in the beginning of this year, the story and screenplay is by Anupam Sinha and Jeetu Arora, dialogues are by Anupam Sinha and music by Himesh Reshamiyya, Vishal-Shekhar and Yogendra-Devendra.
