Bad boys

THE MEAN girls of the small screen have always been in the news, but of late, Hindi serials seem to have been taken over by bad boys brigade. Giving the vamps a run for their TRPs are villains such as Rohit Roy in "Des Mein Nikala Hoga Chand" (STAR Plus), Aly Khan in "Lipstick" (Zee TV) or the hot favourite Aman Verma in "Devi" (Sony) and "Kumkum." According to Aman Verma, "Playing a villain is fun, also you get more dramatic lines. Negative characters get noticed." It has led to a bizarre situation where good-looking heroes want to play characters with "shades of grey." They believe that their "evil role on TV" will be noticed by Bollywood producers, and one day they may become Gabbar Singh on the screen! Today, the good guys on TV may manage to tug at your heartstrings but it is the bad guys who get to deliver the punch lines.
