IN AN attempt to tackle the issue of `vulgarity' on television, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry recently convened a meeting of leading entertainment channels. The I and B officials made it clear that the ministry was against any kind of stringent censorship on TV, but that it wanted to evolve a mechanism where there's some kind of check on the programmes telecast. A crackdown on uncensored music videos is on the cards. Already channels such as MTV have asked music video producers to get clearance from the Censor Board before a video goes on air. It was decided that tough measures have to be taken to tone down "vulgarity on TV."
