Remakes rule

"VASOOL RAJA MBBS" has created a new boxoffice record for a Kamal Hassan film at the Sathyam Cineplex. It has taken a distributor's share of Rs. 27,93,777 in 35 days compared to "Virumandi's" Rs. 26,21,100 till it was discontinued. The super hits of the year, "Ghilli" and "Vasool Raja MBBS", and the average grosser, "Shock", are remakes from other languages, mainly Bollywood. This has opened the floodgates as Prashanth is now remaking Raj Kumar Santoshi's "Khakhee" as "Police" in Tamil which is directed by his father Thiyagarajan. Another hero has purchased the remake rights of Shah Rukh Khan's "Main Hoon Na". Jyothika is keen on doing "Astitva" in Tamil. Said a hero: "Remakes are safe, what has worked in one language works in Tamil too as has been proved by the recent hits. Human emotions across the country are the same."
