MUBIN SULTAN finds the young couple contributing their mite to changing people's attitudes

THE MUSIC of raindrops kissing the ground and a luminous ambience in the grand lounge of DV Manor welcomed the humble couple of Venkata Ramana and Madhavi. Venkata Ramana is an Orthopaedic Surgeon while Madhavi is a general practitioner dedicated to her family.
Though not practicing at the moment, she is more occupied with their landmark achievement, a Trust that is not only helpful but also is also proving to be a blessing for people left unattended on the roadsides after unfortunate accidents.
The Accident Care Trust came up in 1997 after thorough planning and a great deal of commitment. Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there also is love of humanity.
"We conceived the idea of providing free ambulance and medical service after coming across many people expressing their regrets for not being able to find proper medical guidance at the right time which could have saved many lives," says Venkata Ramana while sipping clear vegetable Tom Yum Kung soup which is a perfect blend with a smooth and chilly evening on a comfortable couch.
Busy doctor
Madhavi takes care of the Trust and is always busy with it. She is sincere about it and is determined to keep it going even if it's a burden on her husband's purse.
But, no matter how engaged she maybe with the Trust, she cannot get as busy as Ramana who usually starts his day at 7 am, attending to surgeries and trauma cases. "What is remarkable about him is that in all these years of our marriage, I have never heard him complain of exhaustion," says Madhavi chipping on tender fingers of baby corn with a crispy texture and chilly loose prawns.
Work needn't necessarily be an excuse for not sharing a passion for other things.
It is probably a mistaken idea that medicine and photography do not go together. "He is always found with his camera, though he enjoys nature-shooting best, he also finds it interesting to click pictures of unusual or challenging cases," says Madhavi.
Basketball player
As a student, she took great pride in her interest in philately and played basketball too. These days she finds a unique pleasure in shopping for her home.
She dreads to cook for her son, Bharghav, who is the severest of her critics when it comes to her culinary skills.
The couple enjoys travelling and are still nostalgic about their trip to Europe. "It was very different to watch Munna Bhai MBBS in Paris," says Madhavi while being modest with Lucknawi mutton rogan gosht for dinner.
Venkata Ramana and Madhavi are excited about the changing attitude of the city. But they hope it retains its impression of being a peaceful city. "We had the freedom to choose between Hyderabad and Vijayawada and there was hardly any second thought about settling here, for it is a unique city with a mark of innocence," say Madhavi and Venkata Ramana with their impressive dessert selections of Qubani-ka-meetha and Caramel Custard.
