AS A teenager Martina Navratilova was not the fitness freak that she is now. Chris Evert recalling her first meeting with Martina says that initially Martina seemed to be just another overweight teenager. "I didn't know who she was and I could not pronounce her name. But after watching her play, I knew that she would create trouble for all of us if she became fitter." Following strict training and diet routines, Martina soon made Evert's fears come true. What ensued was one of the most famous rivalries in international tennis.
LONG JUMPER Anju George's husband Bobby George is well known as the person who has coached her to her present level. But not many know that Bobby himself was a national champion triple jumper and belongs to a family of sportspersons. Several of his brothers are reputed volleyball players - the most famous being the late Jimmy George. During his heydays Jimmy George was one of India's best volleyball players and played as a professional in Italy before meeting with tragic end in a car accident there.
ELDRICK WOODS better known as Tiger Woods, who is acknowledged as one of the most talented golf players in the world, was born on December 30, 1975. His father Earl Woods was a Colonel in the US Army and his mother Kultida was from Thailand. The two decided to give their son the nickname of "Tiger" after a Vietnamese army commando by the name of Phong who was also had the nickname of Tiger and who was a close friend of Col. Woods.
