Theatre and a Goan buffet

The acclaimed play, Children of a Lesser God, is being staged tomorrow

THE PLAY Children of a Lesser God, directed by Vivek Madan, is being staged at Opus tomorrow (October 1) 7:30 p.m. onwards. The play tells the story of Sarah, a girl who has been hearing impaired from birth and is sent to a special school by her parents.

She becomes a stubborn and angry young person, unable to reconcile herself to the larger world where people can hear.

Sarah meets a speech therapist who tries to reinforce her belief in herself and draw her out. This is when fireworks follow, communicated through the parallel language of signs.

The play was staged at the Q Theatre Festival in Mumbai in July in Mumbai this year. Called 5Live, the festival staged plays by the five directors who form the backbone of Q Theatre Productions (QTP), which aims to promote and encourage young theatre talent. The festival celebrated five years of QTP.

Vivek Madan chose to stage Children of a Lesser God starring Meghana Dhawan, Shiva Subramanian, Karn Malhotra, Gavin Cordeiro, Roopa Dhawan, Divya Bajaj and Shaizia Jifri.

In Bangalore, QTP's sister organisation Harlequin Productions is staging Children... at Opus, #4, 1st Main Road, Chakravarty Layout, Bangalore 560 020. Tickets are priced at Rs. 350 and are inclusive of starters and an entire buffet of Goan cuisine.

Tickets are available at Opus. Call 98861 10301 or 98453 73547 or e-mail harlequinentertainment@rediffmail.com for more information and reservations.
