HOT SUN and lots of fun was what you missed if you were not there on the grounds of Chinmaya Vidyalaya on 25 September, 2004. The grand inter school competition - Chaitanya' 2004, the much sought after of the school festivals was hosted by Chinmaya Vidyalaya. Teachers and students from class VIII to XII from almost 10 schools from Kochi took part in the event.
Ever since Chaitanya was launched in 1998, the students of class XI with the help of their teaching and non-teaching staff manage every aspect of this gala inter school festival. Teachers and other prominent personalities in and around Kochi judged all the contests. The event was compared by Sandhya, an ex-student of Chinmaya Vidyalaya who had come down from Mumbai especially for it! The principal Ms. Maya Mohan inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional lamp. Cine star Jyotirmayi and play back singer Jyotsna who were present at the function, performed for the students on popular demand.
Theme: Zodiac signs
Chaitanya'2004 was based on the `Zodiac Signs', which was followed with various cultural and literary events. At the onset the students were quite delighted to have their horoscopes read out by fortunetellers mingling with the crowd. The five main competitions for the event were also innovatively named.
The music competition called, Scorpion Sting with foot-tapping melodies had the crowd swinging and enjoying every bit of it. A truly amazing performance, nothing less than professional musicians, was put up by the students.
Sagittarian satire or dramatics required the competing teams to bottle the characters of three comics or cartoons and present a humorous satire.
Cancerian chitchat or the elocution contest required the participating school teams put on their thinking caps and make a point. Piscean Spice or the dance competition was one of the most vibrant contests. The teams were required to present a semi-classical dance piece representing at least three forces of nature.
And finally the Gemini walk or the fashion show, which was the most sought after competition. Keeping in mind the theme of Chaintanya'2004, the student designers were required to depict the characters of the zodiac signs through the various costumes. The minute detailing of the costumes, make-up and hair had a lot say for the next - gen designers!
Cheerleaders
Cheerleading teams from various schools were doing a fantastic job to boost the morals of their respective teams. In fact the cheerleading contest was by far the most lively and fervent of all the competitions. The killing heat proved to be no obstacle for the enthusiastic cheerleading teams as they danced and cheered aloud in the open grounds of the school. The cheerleading trophy was finally bagged by Vidyodaya School for an excellent performance.
The concluding ceremony was graced by the presence of none other than famed singer Afsal who gave away the prizes to the winners. Choice School bagged the first place followed by Bhavans Vidyamadir (Elammakara), who stood second and Bhavans Vidyamandir (Girinagar) secured the third position. On popular demand Afsal sang his popular number `Rakshasi' and a couple other melodies ending the Chaitanya 2004 in a grand style.
On the whole the event was well conducted with all participants and their cheering teams enjoying the occasion to the hilt. Winning the trophy was not such a big deal after all.
It was the participation that mattered most, to everyone. The event was a grand success as it surely provided some unforgettable moments for the students and teachers to cherish.
