Cosmetology gets a facelift

Facial Tissue Augmentation is the latest beauty treatment to hit the city beauty clinics but what exactly is it? ARCHANA NANDAL peels off this mask.

"ANATOMY IS destiny", said Sigmund Freud. "And destiny, my girl, is providence", said Mother. "Well, not any more Ma, not any more ... ."

Never was looking beautiful as easy as it is now. The world looks to be a beautiful place full of beautiful people! Look around and there are beautiful faces looking down from bill-boards, beautiful boys and girls dancing to modern rhythm on TV , beautiful movie stars guiding you through the big bazaar of life endorsing products , beautiful clean and scrubbed faces at College campuses , in grocery stores , at book shops and restaurants and pretty much everywhere else. And all these beautiful people are - you and me - people from the ordinary walk of life.

Although beauty care has been an important facet of human life since the first civilization but it is not so any more. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's), damage from free radicals, chemical peels, harmful effects of UV rays, melanin blocks, retinols, Vitamin C etc. have become common phrases in our daily language. Off-the shelf beauty enhancement creams and lotions that one can slather on have been around for many years now, and constant scientific research is promising to give us better and better results, each passing day. And that is but one chapter of the beauty story.

New Buzz

What is the other? What is the newest buzz in beauty enhancement and care? Well, a new tribe of aestheticians and skin doctors are here to literally get under your skin and to help you fight the damaging effects of time and elements. A pioneer in this field, in Kochi city, is SlimFx Centre, located at Panampilly Nagar. The cosmetic clinic which is now in its second year of running offers a host of corrective therapies like slimming and body sculpturing, breast reduction, firming and lifting, double chin removal, treatment of dark circles, skin refining, micro dermabrasion for facial skin rejuvenation and lifting, removal of wrinkles, and removal of unwanted body hair, pigmentation, scars and birthmarks etc through laser therapy. Soumini Vidyasagar, an aesthetician and Managing Director of the company is supported by a dedicated faculty of nurses, dieticians, beauty experts , physiotherapists and with imminent cardiologists and neurologists of the city on call and she offers complete beauty solutions - starting from counselling. This ascertains the physical and psychological reasons behind the problem, to a battery of tests and body composition analysis, which enables her to isolate physiological reasons, which may need correction before the therapy, can actually begin.

To make the face glow: Beauty treatments are going hi-tech and several clinics are coming up in the city.

Obesity and Electrod

Often, in cases of Obesity, a malfunctioning liver is the elementary reason for excess fat deposits, which is given corrective therapy first through special vegetable and fruit juice based diet, before proceeding on to the electrod machine - the wonder machine which through the use of Infrared rays and Faradic waves produces heat and muscle contraction which mobilize the fat deposits, break them down, and flush them out of the body via the excretory system. A wonder machine because a half hour session on it equals eight hours of a high intensity workout in the gym.

In facial rejuvenation, Micro dermabrasion treatments which are superficial skin peels - chemical and mechanical both, braise off the top most layer of dead skin cells, which dull the skin appearance, with the help of micro crystals, to reveal new clean and fresh skin from below.

Tissue Augmentation

The newest upgrade here is Facial Tissue Augmentation - a breakthrough in beauty enhancement treatments worldwide and the fastest growing cosmetic procedure in the world after chemical peels. Liaised with Dr. M.K.Shetty a U.S. trained dermatologist and Cosmetologist and a Laser Dermato Surgeon in Cosmetology, based in Bangalore, Slim Fx recently held a demonstration by the Doctor himself. Removal of creases on the forehead and crow's feet around the eyes and laugh lines that need to be wiped out or an involuntary frown are now just a thin gauge needle away. The process involves injecting a filler substance into the area and moulding it in gently for it to be in place. The latest filler substances, which are creating a buzz, are Botox and Hyaluronic acid (which has got the FDA nod recently). Both these substances are now extremely popular the world over, and are relatively free from side effects and allergies, since they are naturally also present in the skin (hyaluronic acid is but a huge molecule consisting of repeating chains of sugar ! ), and the effects last for upto a year. The treatments are catching on in India too and are fast changing the face of cosmetic dermatology. All this. So that the smile comes back to your face (minus the lines off course ! ) , and the dimples stay where they belong - on your cheeks... ... ... ..
