Magic of Madan Mohan

YASH CHOPRA'S Diwali release "Veer-Zaara" has 11 unused compositions of the late Madan Mohan, the melody maker of the 1950s and 1960s. Says Yash Chopra: "The film is about an intense romance between two people in India and Pakistan trapped in situations beyond control. We needed a certain kind of music and I selected the tunes out of 500 unused tunes by late Madan Mohanji whose music has a timeless quality. Most of the songs written by Javed Akhtar are sung by Lataji." In fact, Chopra has floated a new record label for "Veer- Zaara", and the music is catching on.
