THE BRIDE arrived last Friday with Gurinder Chadha's "Bride and Prejudice" which puts an entirely different spin on Jane Austen's story of spirited courtship, Bollywood style with music and dance. The story, in a nutshell, is about a witty woman Lalitha played by Aishwarya Rai trying to find a suitable groom in a cross cultural setting that spans 21st Century India, London and America. For Aishwarya, it is the most important film of her career as its box-office success will fetch her a ticket to Hollywood. "Bride and Prejudice" is also having a Hindi version aptly titled "Balle Balle! Amritsar to LA", and has music by Anu Malik. The $20 million-plus film is also likely to push Gurinder Chadha into the big league in Hollywood. And Chennai-based cinematographer Santhosh Sivan's camera has also come in for praise among the preview audience.
