Hungarian delights

Film lovers of this metro had a nice treat at the recent four-day Hungarian Film Fest at the VUDA Children's Theatre.

Organised by the Vizag Film Society, four films with sub-titles, were screened.

While 'The Wondrous Voyage' of Kornel Esti directed by Jozsel Pacskovszky, 'Palaside Street Kidnapping' by Sandor Mihalyfi and 'Romani Kris' directed by Gyongyyossy and Barna Kabay were in colour, 'My 20th Century' was in black and white.

The black and white film, directed by Iidko Enyedi, had won a couple of awards like the best author prize at the Budapest Film Festival and also won special prizes at Edinburgh and Las Vegas festivals.

Apart from depicting the culture of rural Hungary, the films subtly portrayed the emotions and sentiments attached to one's life. While 'Romani Kris' (Gypsy Law) portrayed the relationship between an aging father and his three daughters, 'My 20th Century' was an excellent picturisation of relationship between two sisters.

"By the end of November we would be hosting two more such festivals, subject to the clearance of Federation Film Society of India. The first one is likely to contain a package of six films by V. Shantaram and the second would be a four-day festival featuring V. Narasing Rao's films. We are also planning to screen the Telugu classic, 'Mala Pilla', directed by Gudavalli Ramabrahmam, by October-end," the society's secretary, Narava Prakash Rao, announced.
