Phani's creativity and Asha's obsession for gardening paved way for creation of the splendid Emerald, says MUBIN SULTAN
|
"MY FAMILY members miss their home badly," says Phani Bhushan, a top-notch psychiatrist and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Guntur Medical College, indicating his family's attachment to their home. A graceful edifice given a homely ambience thanks to the love and care bestowed on it by the dwellers, `Emerald' stands magnificent as one of the most desirable houses in Guntur. Slightly deviating from the actual connotation of `Emerald' which means a precious green stone, Bhushan chose to usher in a `green' world which forms the impressive interior done in granite `stone'.
Gardening skills
His wife Asha, assistant professor of Pathology, stays in Hyderabad and guides their son, Krishna Prathik in his preparation for IIT entrance test. "Asha's love for gardening reflects in the beauty the home exudes when she is here," says Phani Bhushan with pride. Asha's gardening skills coupled with the passion with which she goes about the task has made it possible for the couple to bag `the best indoor garden award,' in the city in the last two consecutive years.
The granite used for the house is of a special kind. Phani Bhushan remembers travelling a long distance just to find the right kind of rock to build his dream house. His journey, however, ended at Addanki in Prakasam district where he found a suitable `rock' which matched perfectly with his fanciful idea of creating a heavenly abode.
A perfect blend
The house is a clear reflection of Phani Bhushan's creativity and Asha's obsession for gardening. An antique door that had perhaps once welcomed scores of zamindars and other VIPs inside the dwelling, greets the doctor's family and their visitors with utmost dynamicity.
The wooden carved furniture with fine details of Islamic art is in perfect sync with the massive planks depicting southern architecture. The blend is a major contributor to the artistic air that prevails in the Emerald.
A feast to the eyes of the occupants of the majestic swing in the hall is an indoor garden that has been given an alfresco setting. Making the best of it these days is their pet dogs, Shamu and Polka, a lovely pair of mother and son. The landscape paintings adorning the walls of the house are very close to the couple's heart. "The paintings are done by my father," says Phani Bhushan, pointing to an awesome piece of art that was acclaimed the State's best.
The Indian look
Absence of a fireplace is the only aspect of the house which makes it Indian. But the indigenous rock sculptures of Lord Surya, Krishna and Vinayaka from Bhubaneshwar more than make up for the loss. A garden created in the middle of the house has lend an equal doze of verve and colour to the place. Butterflies of different shades fluttering around the place adds a Spanish touch to the home. The bedrooms are artistically done.
A splendid view of the soft sunlight entering into the room piercing through the windows, resembles images of Harry Potter's. The traditionally-styled raised beds with sturdy posts leave a touch of Indianess in the aesthetically done room. For the music-loving Phani Bhushan, home is an abode that transforms him into a world of peace after a hectic day, in the quiet but glorious company of his mother Sundaramma.
