Singing star
SHE MADE her debut with `Pranayamanithooval', but it was Sukhamaneenilavu... , from the campus flick `Nammal', that gave her that elusive break. Post `Nammal', Jyotsna's career has gone places. With 70-odd films behind her, this 18-year-old singer is hardly complaining. Her latest film to hit the theatres is `Greetings'. Jyotsna has also sung for films such as `Youth Festival', `Immini Nalloraalanu', `Perumazhakkalam' and `Ennitum', which will hit the theatres in the months to come.
A song she is excited about is Meherbaan... , from the film `Perumazhakkalam'. "It's an oppana song, and I have sung it with Afsal. Meherbaan... has a catchy rhythm. I haven't sung anything like this before," says Jyotsna, who has been learning classical music under Mangad Natesan.
The six loves of her life:
Family and friends: "My elder sister is back from the United States after her Masters in Business Administration. We are a family again after four years. So, we are having a lot of fun. I have a few select friends. Sridevi is my closest pal. I like to hang around with my friends whenever I get time."
Music: "There can never be too much music in my life. My stereo is always switched on. I listen to a lot of Hindi and English songs, instrumental music and fusion. I believe that theoretical knowledge and practical training undoubtedly help, but one can also pick up a style of music by listening to it."
Food: "I am crazy about food. I like junk food such as pizzas, burgers, potato chips - everything that is bad for health."
Dance: "I was taught Bharatanatyam by my mother. As a singer, I do a bit of dancing during stage shows. I love to play songs on my stereo and dance to them while at home. I hope to go to a discotheque soon."
Reading: "I like reading novels and thrillers. Robin Cook is one of my favourite authors. I am not into classics though I should be reading them for I am a BA English Literature student."
Cosmetics: "I was not very fond of cosmetics but when I entered the industry, I realised that looks are important. These days, whenever I go out, I make it a point to use make up. I also experiment with my hairstyle. I apply gel and make my hair so curly that it looks permed."
