`Carnivale' is the newest HBO original series
|
MAGIC IS suddenly back in fashion thanks to the good Harry Potter and the not so good Artemis Fowl. And magic is one of the threads running through the sumptuous HBO original Carnivale.
Set in the `30s Dust Bowl, the series follows a travelling carnival full of colourful characters as these shows were bound to be.
There is a midget for the carnival boss played by Michael J. Anderson, a lizard man played by John Fleck of Star Trek, a blind mentalist and a tarot card reader who has conversations with her catatonic mother.
Nick Stahl of `Terminator 3' is the new entrant in the carnival who sets things for a collision course. As Ben Hawkins, he has a gift of healing powers that he conceals and is often haunted by strange and traumatic dreams. Pitted against him is Brother Justin who believes God is talking to him but there are doubts about whether it is God or something else.
Carnivale, which won five out of the seven Emmy's it was nominated for, was made at the cost of $3 million and will be shown every Monday following the 9 p.m. movie.
So get ready with the popcorn for yet another HBO original.
