Visakha Mahila Sahithi, an offshoot of the noted Visakha Sahithi, organised a symposium on `Sri Sakti Swaroopini'. The Mahila Sahithi's president and noted litterateur from the Andhra University Department of Telugu, K. Malayavasini, was in the chair.

The guest of honour, K. Leelavathi from the AU Department of Hindi, besides the former principal of Visakha Mahila Kalasaala, K. Veenavathi, the Gayatri College lecturer, Kanakamahalakshmi, the noted wirter, Koganti Vijayalakshmi, the lecturer from Mrs.AVN College, V. Viajayavalli, the Samatha College lecturer, Charla Vidula, and the teacher from St. Joseph's Convent School, P. Bharathi, were the main speakers.

Joining the interactive session later, M. Siva Prasad, J. Gopala Krishna and the likes provided an exhilaratingly exciting finale.

Almost everybody agreed with the observation that women to whatever region they may belong, symbolised a paradigmatic personofication of `Satwa, Raja, Tamo' gunaas, made by Prof. Malayavasini. They depored that in a land like Bharat, where the creative source of the entire universe is considered as Aadiparasakti and specially and ardently adored in Her nine forms (Navadurgas) during the Dasara festival, Mahasaraswathi, Mahalakshmi and Mahakaali in particular on the last three days, the fair sex wass being regarded only as a second grade citizen, a toy of pleasure and so on. It was unanimously felt that all sorts of gender discrimination should be wiped out once and for all - the most welcome resolve.

But, how much the fair sex itself is responsible for many of the ills and evils which have crept in in the name of sex and remain an integral part in the ongoing process of our society all over ever remains a moot point.

Jampana Kumara Varma well co-ordinated the programme.
