Rosy woods, teak within

The right assemblage of teak and rosewood collection has enabled Subba Rao and Rekha to extract a harmonizing effect, says Deepa Raparla.

THE TINKLING resonance of the glass chime chandelier in the vestibule matching with the whole lot of lighting fixtures, radiate a shimmering effect on the spacious hall of the dwelling belonging to Musunuri Subba Rao, the Deputy Mayor of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. A marble ledge with a rosewood casing and embedded flaps give way for display of an assortment of pricey porcelain figurines.

Frames with embossed work depicting an attractive scenario adorn the wall. Adding to their beauty is the stitch work contributed by Rekha, the better half of Subba Rao. Liberal use of vases and urns packed with colourful flowers at every expected spot, add zing to the place. The Saharanpur collection includes a finely-carved vertical drawer chest in rosewood, with brass inlay work.

The graceful Meerabai in clay escorted by a porcelain collection supplements the beauty of the spot. The lush green creepers with pink flowers strewn all over the place provide a visual treat from the window outlets.

Rosewood dwaram

The rosewood-finished edwaramf with two pillars and counters on either side separates the foyer from the dining. A statue of a gold-tinted laughing Buddha and the ever colour-changing daffodils, occupy the counters. The dining table is styled in rosewood again, in complete sync with a dark glass top table and chairs with blue cushions. A marble ledge with teak frames serve the dual purpose of displaying the crockery and leaving ample space on the granite counter for other uses.Kitchen is immaculate with teakwood-finished cabinets and brick-coloured granite counters set up in the right place. Etched glass flaps display an array of crockery while the counters exhibit a line of electronic gadgets making it easy for the users to keep the beauty of the place intact. The bedroom is one of the major attractions. Occupying the heart of the room is a double bed, an absolute teakwood attraction with peacock carvings. Use of satin fabric to supplement the beauty of bay windows in teak lends a harmonizing effect.

Classic touch

The Saharanpur furniture empowers the room in the form of a bedside tables and a hexagonal chest with elegant carvings and brass inlay. A dresser standing on the other end of the room concludes the classic touch. The kidsf bedroom with full-length teakwood-furnished cabinets include the best of the craftsmanship in their engraving style. In the center of the teak craze is a display case, showcasing an expensive cosmetic collection.

The dresser furnished in teakwood is trimmed admirably with a bunch of lilac flowers hanging loose from above. A cupboard, which is again a teak wonder, houses an impressive collection of books and a computer.

Small contributions to accentuate the beauty of the home enhances my zeal to keep it alive,h says a beaming Rekha. My husband and the two kids, Bindu and Anusha, have also played a role in turning the place into our dream house, she hastens to add.

Tip of the week:

Space Savvy: Use textures for interestcCombining textures in your d‚cor will give a small room interest, appeal, dimension and depth. Choose accessories and fabrics with textural appeal for the best impact. For example: glass, stone, silver, chrome, brass, mirrors, detailed finishes, textured fabrics, shiny fabrics, area rugs and so onc
