WHAT HAPPENS when a medical student decides to make a foray into the world of celluloid? One gets a short but crisp film on the world and the anguish of the people around him.
G. R. Binoy, a house surgeon, had wanted to bring about awareness among the public about the pitiable condition of the aged. The medium he chose was a documentary film. "As soon as the idea of making a short film crossed my mind, I put up a notice in our college asking for volunteers to act in it. But the response was poor," says Binoy.
Theme
So, he went up to the students and selected those who suited the roles. He had to instil in them the confidence that they would do fine. And the result was the 55 minute-long `Unarumo Ormagal' (`Will memories awaken?'). The film focuses on two aspects - the abandonment of aged parents and a couple who are so busy that they neglect their children. A love story has been woven into the story to give it the desired punch.
The film is told in a flashback mode. It tells the story of Ajay (portrayed by Aneesh Parameswaran ), a medical student from a middle-class family. Ajay lays great store by human values. He meets Anu (Swathy Rajagopal, a dancer), another medical student, whose parents are abroad and who have little time for her. The two happen to treat an elderly man, whose only son is abroad. The predicament of Anu and the old man, as the story progresses, comes to the fore.`Unarumo Ormagal' when screened at the ninth edition of the Trivandrum International Film Festival - 2004 received accolade, says Binoy. He aspires to be a director after completing the course and plans to pursue his passion and commitment simultaneously. He hopes to screen his film at the forthcoming international film festivals.

Aneesh, a final-year student, says that he was delighted at the applause that the film and his role received. He wants to act in more films, but says his profession will be his first love.
Abhijith plays the role of Ajay in his childhood. The cast includes Rajagopalan Nair, Kalakshetram Reghu, Unnikrishnan, Dingle Seetharam. Camera has been cranked by Aji, editing is by Ali Akbar, lyrics by Anish N. R. K., art by Kalesh and the story, script and direction by Binoy.
