Shankar Dada MBBS... Supreme... Rs. 40
WHEN A musician scores for a hero rather than for situations in the film, quality is bound to suffer. For a musician who had come like a refreshing change, this was a challenge to live up to. Neither can he disappoint the hero's followers with his original scores nor can he do total justice to the album by ignoring the hero's image. Devisri Prasad seems to be caught precisely in this situation for composing tunes for Chiranjeevi.
Yet, he comes out with a few refreshing ones, though the album is loaded with tunes purely to make Chiru's fans happy.
The first number of Shankardada MBBS is just one of those run-of-the-mill kinds with a few fast beats at the end to make Chiru's fans go berserk in the hall. Lyrics make no difference though Mano ensures that he dominates the beats at a few places. The next number Naa pere kanchanamala is catchy aimed at the frontbenchers. Malathi does a fairly good job with her husky voice. The best number of the album, perhaps, is Chaila Chaila. Hummable since the first beat itself, it reflects the style of Devisri Prasad. K.K. sings both with vigour and poise. We also get to hear Chiru mouthing some dialogues. Interestingly, Devisri Prasad himself pens the number and he does a good job with a nice tune.
Pattu pattu number is another tune created just to be in Chiru's style. Adnan Sami, who rendered Ye Jilla, should have concentrated a bit on Telugu diction and one can't blame him but the music director for it. But Devisri Prasad makes it up with pulsating orchestration. The tunes would sound better in the cinema hall than at home. A must buy for Chiranjeevi fans only.

Tujhko Pukare Tera Laal Maa... T-Series... Rs. 35
IT IS Navratra time, meaning time for T-Series to dish out its religious numbers. Which is fine but the tragedy with T-Series is that even in such ventures it completely relies on plagiarism. Side A begins with Udit Narayan's Chalo Bhakton Chalo... the tune of which is an unabashed lift of Kishore Kumar's famous song Meri Pyari Behaniya... (Sacha Jhootha.) The last song in Side B, Aaja Tujhko Pukare Tera Laal Maa, is again a straight lift of Mohammed Rafi's wonderful song Aaja Tujhko Pukare Mera Pyar from film Geet.
Even though Sonu Nigam, has sung this song nicely, somehow it comes out as a poor imitation of the original.
In between there are other songs also thrown in for good measure but again two or three of them have filmi-tunes.
Like Main Katra Jaaungi (Bindiya Chamkegi of Do Raaha) and Ooncha Hai Darbaar (Lata Mangeshkar's Payal Ki Jhankaar in Raaste).
