Gandhi and Godse

NATHURAM GODSE is no more than the mindset, which gave birth to a distorted philosophy. One cannot dismiss what he did but one can at least listen to his inner voice. Pradeep Dalvi's play Mee Nathuram Godse Boltoy translated from the Marathi by Shanta Kulkarni, is all set to be staged at the Telugu University Auditorium today and tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The Sutradhar School of Acting is presenting Rangadhara Theatre Stream's 77th production, Main Nathuram Godse, the Hindi translation of Dalvi's play.

The play, which is an assassin's point of view shows how history has judged the man who murdered the Mahatma. The play deals with the reasons for the assassination and poses the question, was Godse a maniac or someone who felt strongly for Indian unity?

The 105-minute play also throws light on the practicality of Gandhi's policy of Ahimsa, why Godse did not wish his ashes to be immersed and why he did not appeal against his death sentence. The performance is an exact representation of the original text. Tickets are priced at Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 and details can be had from Vinay Varma on 040-23226485, 9848052541.
