Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.II presenting a march past.

The Indian Overseas Bank will conduct painting and elocution competitions for school children, as part of its Founder's Day celebrations, on November 28.

The competitions are open to children of various schools in the city. The participants for the painting contest will be divided into three categories and those for elocution will be divided into categories, age wise, according to the bank's Senior Regional Manager, A.J. Prasad.

The 18th annual sports meet of Kendriya Vidyalaya-II, Nausenabaugh, was held on the school premises last week. The General Manager (technical), Naval Dockyard, Rahul Kumar Shrawat, inspected the march past by students. The students gave a colourful drill display. All the students took an oath to participate in the true spirit of the game keeping aside all feelings of envy and hatred.

The principal, Joshua Hastings, welcomed the gathering.

Sri Gowthami Public School, Rajahmundry, will organise a State-level seminar-cum-contest in maths for students of Std. IX and Std. X in Rajahmundry on January 22 and 23, 2005.

Students of any school in the State and also from border areas can send papers on any topic of their choice in maths. Each school can send a maximum of four papers. According to the college correspondent, Sunkara Ravi Kumar, the objective of the seminar is to develop research orientation and imaginative thinking among student community.

The top four paper will be given prizes in the form of books worth Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000, Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000. The last date for submission of entries is November 30. Details can be had from M.S.V. Kameswara Rao on (0883) 2400620.

The Lions Club of Visakhapatnam conducted chess, painting and drawing competitions as part of the 36th Lions Childrens Day programme. A total of 68 children from 30 schools participated. The following are the winners in various categories:

Chess: PVSM Praveen Kumar (SFS School), G. Chiranjeevi (PEN School) and Ch. Mohineesh (School of Wonder Kids).

Drawing: Juniors - P. Pavan Kumar (DAV Public School), K. Ravi Sai (Marris Stella English Medium School) and Surabhi Nath (Itasi Timpany Secondary School).

Seniors - S. Vijay (Chaitanya Public School), B. Chaitanya Kumar (AVN College High School), B. Sridevi (Vagdevi Vidya Mandir).

Painting: Juniors - Kanaparthi Lavanya (St. Joseph's School), A.S.K. Kaushik (DAV Public School) and M. Ramya Krishna (PEN School) bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.

Seniors - D.R. Nanda Goutam (KV Steel Plant), M. Kiran Kumar (Chaitanya Public School) and S. Appala Raju (AVN School) bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.

The NIE programme offers a wide spectrum of practical training ranging from phonetics to making crosswords, dramatics to disaster management, life skills that sharpen the young psyche and interesting aspects like public speaking and communication skills.
