Festival cracks
Deepavali was special during my days in the boarding school because we were allowed to get up late 6.30 a.m. On one occasion, we just went on bursting crackers and reported late for breakfast. So we were made to kneel down. I was so annoyed for being punished on a festival day that I resolved never to burst crackers. Of course, I broke it when I entered college.

Oh, I can never forget this one! I was in school then. A day before Deepavali I went to Parry's and came back with a big load of crackers. I called my mother to watch me burst them. But she was busy in the kitchen and I went on a cracker-bursting spree all by myself. The next thing I knew was that some of the curtains and a few sofa covers had caught fire. What happened next was predictable fireworks from mother.

Since childhood this festival, particularly bursting crackers, excited me. Though I can't recollect any funny incident or interesting anecdote about Deepavali, I think the most amusing were those soundless Deepavalis we spent when our family was in the Gulf. Isn't it funny to celebrate this festival of light and sound quietly? The most I could do to share my thrill was to go visiting our non-Indian neighbours to show off my new clothes. Till date I don't miss buying something new for the festival.

For me, this is an occasion to spend time with the family. Two years ago, my Deepavali release Villian, did good business. Last year was not good. This time around, I am hoping that Attagasam will click. More so for my fans who are waiting for a hit from me.

This is going to be my first Deepavali with my husband. So, it is going to be extra special with loads of gifts and celebrations. I am praying for many more years of similar bliss. As for the nature of celebrations, if I went ga ga over pattu paavadai earlier, I'm now flipping for silk sarees. I've made the transition from girl to woman this Deepavali.
Archana, compere
Every year, this is when I look forward to some happy moments with family and friends. This year will be extra special because of Azhagiya Theeye. Last year, I was just another person. Now, the tag of director prefixes me.
Radha Mohan, director
I've never been too fond of celebrating Deepavali in a grand manner. It's always been a low-key affair at home. This year is no different. But, I've managed to get myself a black sherwani that I've been eyeing for long.

I've stopped buying crackers after hearing that many children engaged in their manufacture ssuffer health problems. But, I love to watch the fireworks in the sky during Deepavali.
My most memorable Deepavali was when I was a kid. I'd left the crackers my father brought me on the terrace and came down to get a mathappu. I returned to find an empty terrace. In a matter of a few minutes, the neighbourhood children had helped themselves to my crackers. I was so upset and created a scene, forcing my parents to get me a fresh lot.
Shalini, singer
Mention Deepavali, this incident instantly comes to my mind. Though Sukesh (husband) and I have never liked to buy crackers, during our thalai Deepavali we went on a splurge. Some little boys from the nearby slum joined us while bursting crackers. We were so thrilled to see the smile on their faces. Sukesh rushed to get plenty of crackers and sweets. Soon 20 more kids joined us. The fun continued till noon. I can never forget the blast we had that day.
