In tune with Mika

Mika is back with his new album - lounge music with Punjabi lyrics

ONCE AGAIN Bhangra pop singer and brother of Daler Mehndi, Mika, is back in action. After making news with the song Saawan Mein Lag Gayee Aag, he seems to have faded away along with the big brother.

But now in form, he gets everyone swinging to the tunes from his albums. "I'm promoting Punjabi culture and my songs which are in demand from the youth," says Mika.

Entirely focused on his singing career, Mika says, "I compose my own songs and sing them."

"Though I wanted to become the music director, yet it did not happen to me. But I have no regrets in whatever I am doing."

Too much in love with his own numbers, he says, "I want the people to listen to my every track. Every song has something new for them as I change my music every year whether hip hop music, techno music or fusion of Modern and Indian and never use the same lyricist or same word." Well, you keep quiet wondering whether in actuality is he not aware the repetitive nature of most Punjabi pop singers.

Having left his studies after fifth standard, Mika is always "focused on doing riyaz and has not missed it even for a single day."

Though he did not have any formal training in singing he says, "My real practice comes from stage shows both in India and abroad."

Talking about coming days, he informs, "I am working on an untitled album that will be aired in January. The music is different, it's lounge music with Punjabi lyrics and most of them are dancing numbers."

And playback singing for Bollywood? "Not yet."
